Nocturnal flowers

Every night in my dreams, I see you I feel you

That is how I know you go on

This heart-warming rendition by Celine Dion does give the night a whole new meaning. Enveloped by the silhouette of intense darkness, night is a conjurer. It is the epitome of an enigma that invokes the thrill to tread into unknown territory. The obscuring trait concomitant with night makes night time an extremely seducing duration for many of us. At least, I can vouch for myself that I am a nocturnal creature. The silence of the night provides impetus for my creative energy, letting it swirl and twirl with aplomb.

Therefore, I can’t help but gush about nocturnal flowers, flowers that bloom late in the evening to narrate their night-time stories with a touch of blissful fragrance assuring their awe-inspiring presence. This is my ode to nocturnal flowers whose enrapturing beauty inspires me to pen down poetry.

Reasons to Grow Nocturnal Plants

A simple reason for growing nocturnal plants is to immerse in their serene, breath-taking and soul-penetrating scent. If you want to create a fragrant or sensory garden, then nocturnal flowering plants are indispensable. Moreover, their marvellous scents will glorify the odour in the surroundings, bestowing fresh and pleasant air.

Nocturnal flowering plants prefer to bloom in the night owing to their aversion to bright sunlight. Another reason for their nocturnal status can be attributed to their pollinators like bats and moths, who are most active during the night. Nocturnal species are members of the warmer climate as evaporation during night-time ushers in a sedative effect for the plants. Nocturnal plants start blooming with the slow onset of darkness and are at their peak efflorescence during the dark of night and then, close by day. Hence, nocturnal plants require sunlight either in part or full amount in the day, to perform efficiently at night. Although nocturnal plants bloom during night-time, it is during the day that they accumulate the energy that allows them to develop flowers at night with immense vigour.
