Chrysanthemum Carinatum:

Chrysanthemum carinatum ‘Polar Star’ is an easy to grow showy annual with unusual tricolour daisy flowers. Each white bloom has an intriguing inner yellow halo surrounding a central darker cushion. Perfect for adding height and interest to borders, as well as making a long lasting cut flower. Height: 75cm (30″). Spread: 40cm (16″).

Companion planting: Try growing Chrysanthemums with chives, whose aromatic leaves will deter aphids. Profuse flowering, multicoloured big flowers, good for bedding.

Sowing:

Direct sow Painted Daisy seeds outdoors where they are to grow from April to May. Choose a position in full sun on any well drained soil which has been raked to a fine tilth. Sow seeds thinly, at a depth of 6mm (&frac;1/4″) in drills spaced 23cm (9″) apart. Water the ground regularly, especially during dry periods. When Chrysanthemum plants are large enough to handle, thin them out to 30cm (12″) apart

Care:

Water regularly until plants are fully established. Deadhead faded chrysanthemum flowers to prolong the flowering period. Caution: irritant to skin and eyes.
