Zebra is part of the Phaseolus genus and is a Bean variety. Its scientific name is Phaseolus vulgaris ‘Zebra’. This variety is a Vegetable that typically grows as an Annual, which is defined as a plant that matures and completes its lifecycle over the course of a single year.

Zebra normally grows to a max height of 1.30 feet (40.0 cm metric).
Typically, Zebra Bean is normally fairly low maintenance and can thus be quite easy to grow – only a basic level of care is required throughout the year to ensure it thrives. Being aware of the basic growing conditions this plant likes (soil, sun and water) will result in a strong and vibrant plant.
Try to plant in a location that enjoys full sun and remember to water moderately. Keep in mind when planting that Zebra is thought of as tender, so remember to wait until your soil is warm and the night time temperature is well above freezing before moving outside.
Try to aim for a seed spacing of at least 3.9 inches (10.0 cm) and sow at a depth of around 1.95 inches (5.0 cm). Soil temperature should be kept higher than 16°C / 61°F to ensure good germination.
By our calculations, you should look at sowing Zebra about 14 days after your last frost date.
