Q: Is this variety of Tomato suitable for containers? If so let me know what should be the size of container so that I can decide whether it suits for my balcony garden.
— Asked by Suhasini on November 25, 2014
A: Hi Suhasini. Thank you for your query. Yes, cherry tomatoes are suitable for growing in containers about 10 to 14 inches in diameter. You will need to provide support to it using stakes like bamboo canes. You can grow it in your balcony, just make sure that it receives at least 3 to 4 hours of sunlight. Happy Gardening!
Q: I bought a pack of Cherry tomato seeds. Should I use a seed tray for germination? Please guide me. I am a novice and will plant it in my balcony pots
— Asked by Saugata Datta on June 20, 2015
A: Hi Saugata. Thank you for your query. It is better to germinate the seeds in a seed tray as it gives more successful germination and the saplings can be individually transferred to the soil. However, you can also plant the seeds directly on ground. Take care to water the seeds gently everyday until they grow to be bout 6 inches tall.
Q: Is the wild Texas cherry tomato suitable for hanging basket or container type of cultivation?
— Asked by Marilyn on June 30, 2015
A: Hi Marilyn. Thank you for your query. Wild Texas cherry tomatoes are more suited to be cultivated in containers than in hanging baskets as their stems are stiff.
