A trailing plant which will grow tendrils as it gets bigger. They have a prickly skin. Whether for pickling or slicing, cucumbers are easy to grow if you give them good soil, full sun and sufficient moisture, and wait for weather to warm before planting.
The Poinsett 76 Cucumber is an excellent slicing cucumber that is perfect for salads. The Poinsett 76is an improved version of the Poinsett Cucumber that is resistant to most cucumber diseases such as downy mildew, powdery mildew, angular leaf spot and anthracnose.

Nutritional Value:
Cucumbers with the peel are an excellent source of Vitamin K. The caffeic acid in cucumbers is said to soothe skin irritations and swelling.
Features:
Harvest in 60-70 days
Sow in garden. Sow seed at a depth approximately three times the diameter of the seed.
Best planted at soil temperatures between 16°C and 35°C.
Space plants: 40-60cm
Planting/Growing Tips:
Grow in full sun. Grow up a trellis or framework to save space and keep the fruit clean. Needs ties to support it at first. Water regularly and fertilise to encourage growth.
Cucumbers are very sensitive to cold. They need warm soil and air, whether direct-seeded or transplanted. Don’t rush to plant too early.
For early crops, use black plastic mulch and row covers or other protection to speed warming and protect plants. Direct seed into holes in plastic. Cucumbers seeded into black plastic usually produce larger yields, as well earlier ones.
Maintenance and care:
Soak seeds overnight before planting either individually in rows or hills of 3-6 seeds each. Tighter spacing and higher yields can be achieved through trellising the plants on fences or poles. Continually harvesting will keep the plant producing new fruits.
> Heirloom cucumbers do not like acidic soil! > Frost tender. Heirloom cucumbers love warm weather.
> To get an earlier heirloom cucumber crop start indoors 3-4 weeks before last frost.
> Heirloom cucumbers are thirsty! Never let them go dry. Heirloom cucumbers are over 95 % water.
> Fertilize heirloom cucumbers with manures BEFORE planting.
> Cucumber beetles are “supposed” to dislike marigolds or wood ashes sprinkled at the base of cucumber vines.
