Lavender seeds:

It is a beautiful, fragrant bush that produces purple, white, and/or yellow flowers, depending on the specific variety. Most gardeners usually propagate it from cuttings, but the plant can also be grown from seed. Growing it from seed is not always successful and is a fairly slow process, but the method is often less costly than buying cuttings or pre-started the plants and can eventually produce plants that are just as vibrant.

it is one of the most popular herbs and it has been a garden favorite for many centuries. A hedge of it in full bloom is delightful to see and you can grow your own lavender hedge remarkably cheaply if you grow the lavender from seed.

Q: Does lavender grow well in delhi? if so, then in what season should it be planted?
— Asked by Priyanka on January 31, 2015
A: Hi Priyanka! Thank you for your query. Yes, lavenders are well suited for the climate in Delhi. Their seeds can be grown directly on soil from March onwards. However, by sowing seeds indoors, you'll get healthier plants with greater blooms. You can go through this guide on "Sowing seeds indoors"- the best time to do so would be in the month of February. https://www.greenmylife.in/growing-seeds-indoors/
Q: what is the best type of soil for lavender? The highest temp where i live is about 23 Cel. and winters can be freezing?
— Asked by Bhasker on March 7, 2015
A: Hi Bhaskar! Thank you for your query. Lavender grows well in well-drained soil, rich in organic matter such as vermicompost or manure. Lavenders are suitable for growing in areas where lowest temperatures dip to about 20 degress below zero. Therefore Lavenders would be winter hardy in your area and will grow easily.
Q: Can I grow lavender in the hot humid kerala climate?
— Asked by Paru on March 17, 2015
A: Hi Paru! Thank you for your query. Lavender plants adapt well to a wide range of growing conditions. However, they thrive best in warm and humid regions like that of Kerela. Start the seeds in a shaded location and water them daily for about 4 weeks. Once the seed has germinated to about 15 inches tall, keep the plant in a location which receives atleast 3 hours of direct sunlight and water the plant only when the soil turns completely dry. Lavender is a tough plant and is extremely drought resistant, once established. However, soggy over-watered soil may cause root-rot and may kill the plant. So ensure that your soil is loose and drains well. Happy Gardening!
Q: I have read lavender needs cold stratification... How true is that... I sowed some seeds in trays in bright sun but no results...
— Asked by mohan on May 21, 2015
A: Hi Mohan! Thank you for your query. Usually, perennial seeds naturally go through a period of cold stratification during winters, when the seeds "rest" in their shells, waiting for warmer Spring to arrive. But seeds can germinate without cold stratification as well. Place the seed tray in bright, filtered sun, in a cool semi-shaded location. Take care to keep the soil moist at all times, but not too wet. Sprinkle the water gently on your seed tray, to avoid damaging the tender seeds. Germinate your seeds in a healthy and balanced Poting Mix (available on our website). Once the seeds sprout to about 6 inches tall, they are ready to be transplanted into the soil or a pot. Lavender is a temperate-climate plant, so 2 to 3 hours of gentle morning or evening sunlight is enough for it to grow well. Happy Gardening!
Q: i am living in rajasthan. i want to grow lavender in the pot can it grow. how much time it must be kept in direct sunlight and how much i should water the plant.
— Asked by kartik on June 6, 2015
A: Hi Kartik. Thank you for your query. Yes, Lavenders can grow in Rajasthan, provided they receive not more than 3 hours of direct sunlight and regular watering. Germinate your seeds indoors, near a bright window and water them regularly to obtain healthy saplings of lavender. During winters, apply some mulch around your lavender plants, and reduce the watering to 2 times a week.
