Q: I am from puducherry, and my residential area is located very near to beach ,I recently bought some seeds of antirrhinum, alyssum and celosia flowers,so advice me will it go well with the climate and what kind of measurements can be made to ensure its wellness

A: Hi Kiruba! Thank you for your query. First of all, for successful germination of your flower seeds, sow them in shade where they receive filtered sunlight. Make sure to keep the soil moist at all times, but not soggy. Once they grow to be about 6 inches tall in a few weeks time, transplant the seedlings to a sunny location (which receives about 4 hours of direct sunlight) and keep watering them regularly. You can directly sow the seeds on ground but make sure to keep the soil moist at all times. Regularly pinch-off the spent flowers to encourage more blooms, if you don't want the flowers to develop seeds for next year. Since you live close to the beach, your garden soil might be too sandy and loose, which dries out very quickly. For a healthier garden soil, mix it with clay to make it more tight. You can also mix the soil with equal parts of vermicompost and coco-peat to give you a well-balanced and perfect garden soil for your lovely flowers.
